BOMBER JACKET

DECEMBER 2022

In our specialized studio class, we were tasked with redesigning a classic outerwear archetype. Assigned to create a version of the bomber jacket, I chose to be inspired by my deep research into World War II flight jackets. through my research I focused on the motifs, patches, and linings of the bomber jackets. Deciding to focus on this design element, I created my own motifs and “patches” based on historical research. These were then fabric transferred into the jacket and top stitched by hand, to create a shadow of the design on the exterior of the jacket. Creating an oversized and quilted base for the jacket helped to push the boundaries of the bomber and to aid in the intricate top stitching of the motifs. The bomber jacket stays true to its nature with details of the ribbing, shape, selection of two different fabrics, and patch pocket on the sleeve.
