TRENCH COAT

In our specialized studio class, we were tasked with redesigning a classic outerwear archetype. Not only did we need to create a new outerwear garment, but a second garment that had the details and inspiration drawn from our coat. Assigned the trench coat, I chose to be inspired by vintage designs and large volumed shapes to bring a new feminine style trench coat to life. The trench coat has details such as enlarged storm flaps, elongated chin straps, thick epaulets, a double breasted front, and a floating lining made of the same fabric. The skirt that pairs with it is made of a white silk blend fabrci that is essentially a “trench coat skirt.” The skirt has a double breasted opening on the side with buttons and a throat latch for closure. There are elements of the collar, sleeves, chin straps, epaulets, front panel, and back panels apparent in the skirt translation of the coat. The beauty of the garments come from movement when all the floating layers and volumes can be seen.
