WILD WILD WEST
The culture project tasked us to design a look based on important elements and events from where we grew up while pairing us with a late designer who was an innovator in the design space. My look draws upon my experience with the American rodeo while taking shape and technique inspiration from the deisnger Charles James. The rodeo is a place where crazy and unique meet and clash together to make something entirely different from anything else. A combination of bull riding, barrel racing, cattle roping, and other events in the arena, to loud, fringed, and brightly colored western styled clothing in the surrounding atmosphere. I knew if I took these ideals and mixed them with the designs of Charles James, I would be in two seperate worlds. The clash of the rodeo with the design style of Charles James opened the opportunity to bring classic shapes of haute couture into rodeo culture while still keeping the details of embellishments true to western wear. The look aims to exude the elegance in construction that is reminiscent of the simply perfect style of Charles James and combine it with the loud and highly detailed style of the rodeo.
